Recording guide
How to set up, frame and record clips that pass review first time.
What you need
- A smartphone that records 1080p video. Most phones from the last five years do.
- A head strap or chest mount. Basic ones cost around $15. Hand-held footage isn't accepted.
- A well-lit space where you have permission to film.
Camera settings
| Setting | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1080p (720p accepted) | Hands and objects need to be sharp. 4K files are too large to upload. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Smooth enough to track hand movement, small enough to upload. |
| Orientation | Landscape | Matches how robot cameras see. Portrait is accepted but reviewed more slowly. |
| Audio | Anything | Audio is removed automatically before review. |
| File size | Up to 500 MB | Uploads over 500 MB are rejected before sending. |
Framing
- Mount the camera so it sees what your eyes see, angled slightly down at your hands.
- Keep both hands in frame for most of the clip.
- Start with the task set up and in view, and end with the finished result in view.
- Record in one continuous take. Don't cut, trim or speed up the video.
Privacy checklist
Clips with any of these are rejected
Faces (including reflections in windows, mirrors and screens), other people, readable screens, mail, documents, ID cards, medication labels or anything with your name or address.
Safety
Only record tasks you can do safely. Missions avoid open flames and hot stoves on purpose. If a task doesn't feel safe in your space, skip it.
